I used to live in east london about 10 years ago. In gants hill, Ilford, seven kings areas. It was actually very nice during that time. Nice area to live in and still is in certain parts. Mostly Sikh/Hindu sri lankans in the area back then. Having visited again after so many years. Some areas feel like down town islamabad. Especialy ilford lane. people walking around in full islamic robes. But thats probably down to ramadam month. But none the less. Mostly muslim foods shops from top to bottom. While the Sikh population has declined. Only ones left are the newly arrived fresh off the bananna boat ( in search of a better phrase) Whats happening down there? Looks…

I tie a Punjabi style dastar with starch. Why do people hate this so much? Once I was tying my dastar and my neck seized up. The apna doctor said holding that position daily for more than 5 mins is dangerous. He recommended a starched pagg like his dad ties. I took the advice but I still respect Dastar more than life. If someone TREATS their Dastar like a hat just because they don't tie it each time then this is unacceptable but just because one puts their pagg on their head rather than tying it each time doesn't mean they treat it as such. (and let's be honest, starched or not we've all put our dad's pagg on our head like a hat when we were kids as a joke and meant…

I read in the past that gatka is derived from a performance art practiced by some Muslims called khutka, as opposed to being descended from sastarvidiya. Could this be a form of khutka? https://www.facebook.com/reel/426824127191317 https://www.facebook.com/share/r/18neut1wLW/

Wasn't Guru Arjan Dev's martyrdom on amd always commemorated on 6th June? How come it was 30th May? Just like 6th June 84, where the likes of Terrorists like Indira Gandhi chose to attack Darbar Sahib where many many innocent Sikhs would suffer, as they went to commemorate Martyrdom of Maharaj.

There are only 4 castes in India and Jatt isn't one of them. "Jatt" is a sub-community within a caste, not a caste itself. And we (I'm jatt so don't call me offensive lol) aren't even that high, we only rank 3rd out of the 4 castes but have become very respected due to our presence in Punjabi media and the amount of land we own as a community. How is being proud of being Jatt "wrong" in Sikhi - we're not proud of our "caste" (we can't be cos it's not even a high one lol). If anything, Jatts have helped beat the Indian caste system. We literally rose from its bottom to people admiring our lifestyle. So "Jatt" shouldn't be a taboo topic in Sikhi until it becomes one (e…

Gurfathe Ji... Are the youth of today going forward or backwards? We say our last generation are those who believe in the caste system, we know its wrong as after taking amrit there is no caste and everyone is as equal as each other... BUT, are we creating our own 'caste system' and not noticing?!? We can tell what caste people are by the way they tie thier dastar, are we now doing the same thing, but indiretly creating a caste i.e jatha / group? From the way pople tie thier dastar we can tell what 'jatha / group - caste' they belong to and from this they think they can exclude themselves from each other, becuase they know more or better than the other. We think we …

Hello, I've noticed a disturbing new fashion trend among young singhs. It used to annoy me when I'd see young singhs with substantial dharis wearing patkas instead of proper pags. I don't get it. I think a patka with a beard looks sloppy, childish, and embarrassing. But many young men think a proper pagri makes them stand out more and wearing a patka helps them slip under the radar. Now, many young men have taken it a step further. Patkas still make it a bit difficult to "hide" since the joora is sticking out on top. So the latest "innovation" is to tie the joora at the back of the head and then cover the head with a bandana. This is just embarrassing. Why are…

If anyone is following the news about the London School headteacher Katherine Birbalsingh having to ban prayers in her school because of the intimidation by muslim pupils the and all the muslims who pray on the street, particularly during the Gaza protests. Their prayers seem to be quite disruptive We have our morning prayers, Rehra and Sohila path and our prayers never seem to be disruptive. I guarantee that the quality and quantity of our prayers is greater than theirs

A 17-year old kid in the UK stabbed 10 people and killed 3 children. This is quite a horrific incident. What makes this story nuts is the fact the British folks blamed Muslims when it was (according to media reports) a Black British Born kid brought up in Southport, England (he turned 18). There was rioting followed by a police van being burnt in front of a mosque. I have doubts that it was black British born kid-probably a British born Anglo-Saxon kid, just because the amount of support the groups involved in the riots get-but then again I might be wrong. This however is a clear indication in the times we are living in. A innocent 17-year old kid killing 3 children…
